Indie Music
Indie music is known for its wide range of styles and its DIY approach. It originated from independent labels and artists who sought to create music outside the mainstream industry. The term "Indie" refers to the independence from major record labels and often signifies a unique or experimental approach to music.

The Evolution of Indie Music

1980s: The Indie music scene began to crystallize in the 1980s, with bands like The Smiths and R.E.M. leading the charge. This era was marked by a DIY ethos and a lo-fi aesthetic, setting the stage for the genre's future.

1990s: Indie music gained mainstream attention in the 1990s with the rise of alternative rock. Bands like Nirvana and Pavement helped popularize Indie sounds while maintaining their independent spirit. This decade also saw the rise of Britpop with bands like Oasis and Blur.

2000s: The 2000s were a pivotal decade for Indie music, with bands like The Strokes and Arcade Fire achieving significant success. The genre expanded as artists blended Indie with various styles, creating new and exciting sounds.

2010s and Beyond: In recent years, Indie music has continued to evolve, incorporating influences from electronic music, hip-hop, and pop. Bands like Tame Impala and Glass Animals represent the genre's innovative spirit, keeping Indie music fresh and relevant.
